Last Seasons Top Two Clash On Opening Day
This Weekend brings about the start of The 2007-08 Bedfordshire League Football season and action will start in The McGirls Money Management Supported Premier Division with a programme of five games, the game of the day could well come at Greenfield Road where last seasons league champions Westoning Recreation Club begin the defence of their title with a visit from last seasons runners-up AFC Kempston Town who will travel with the knowledge of knowing they have won on each of their last two visits, meanwhile over at Rectory Close under the new management of Roy Hayday, Campton start their season with a visit from Ickwell & Old Warden who will travel seeking their fourth opening day win on the bounce.

Another club under new management this season are Caldecote who will start their journey on what they hope will be a record equalling eighth championship winning season with Vinny Govoni and Mark ( Milko ) Endersby at the helm with a visit from newly promoted Woburn, for last seasons runaway Sportsform Supported Division One Champions Meltis Corinthians its a home game at Miller Road against last seasons third place finishers Blunham who also have a new man at the helm in the shape of former AFC Kempston Town boss Kevin Smith., with the with final game coming at St Thomas Road where Luton Borough will host Oakley Sports who this season will be under the control of Jim Burke.

Action in The Sportsform Supported Division One also brings about five games and the welcome return to the league after a season away of Dunton who under the management of Barry Morris and David Gill will be in home Horseshoes Close action against relegated Turvey, whilst fellow relegated club Bedford SA begin their quest for a quick return to the top flight with a home Cople start against Elstow Abbey 06.

Two sides who are likely to figure in the battle at the top end of the table clash at Hillsground where AFC Kempston Town Reserves host Campton Reserves whilst last seasons third place finishers Flitwick Town start their campaign with a home Steppingley Road game against Royal Oak Kempston, one of only three clubs to lower their colours on home soil last season, the final game taking last seasons Division Two champions Westoning Recreation Club Reserves on their travels for a meeting with Stevington who despite only placing eighth last seasons lost just four times on home soil.

Division Two's top game of the day could well be The Jubilee Park local derby clash between last seasons fifth place club Great Barford and last seasons Division Three Champions Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves, whilst Ickwell's fellow promotion counterparts all start their life in the higher grade with tough looking games, Oakley Sports Reserves entertain Marston Shelton Rovers who begun last season with a twelve game unbeaten run, Clifton travel to face Mulberry Bush at Hillsground, whilst Putnoe United are hosts at Woodside School to Newham Athletic who commenced their campaign last term with the maximum points from their opening two away games.

Their is also action at Moggerhanger where Blunham Reserves will be expected to kick off their season with the full three points from their game with Meltis Albion ( Formely Bedford Albion ) and another Division Two game in Jubilee Park where Meppershall Jurassic entertain league newcomers Bedford College whilst the final game in this division takes place at Crawley Road where last seasons fourth place finishers Woburn Reserves host relegated Saffron.

Division Three action sees league newcomers AFC Shillington in Stondon Recreation ground action against Potton Wanderers who after failing to register have now reformed but find themselves starting life a division below where they finished last campaign, for Caldecote A its a journey to Russell Park and a meeting with Blue Chip where they have gained maximum points in each of the last two seasons.

Having gone the entire 2006-07 season without a win in Division Two, Exel United should have a great chance of starting life in the points with a opening day home game at Hillsground against last seasons Division Three bottom club Lidlington United Sports Reserves whilst Meltis Corinthians Reserves if has expected are going to be live promotion candidates should have to much in the tank not to start the season off with a home win over Flitwick Town Reserves in Jubilee Park.

Other action sees league newcomers Marabese Ceramics travel to face Stewartby Village who now reappear in the league after folding half-way through last season, whilst at Jubilee Playing Fields, Wilshamstead Reserves host Marsh Leys.

Following on from the weekend, the action then switches to Bank Holiday Monday with games in both Division Two and Three ( all scheduled to kick off at 6.15pm but advisable to check before travelling ) In Division Two it's another trip on the road for Ickwell & Old Warden Reserves this time to Hillsground for a meeting with Bedford College but the top game of the night could well be the local derby clash between Clifton and Blunham Reserves, meanwhile Great Barford have their second home game inside 72 hours this time at Hillsground against Putnoe United whilst league newcomers Renhold Village will start their campaign with a home game against Mulberry Bush.

Other division two action comes at Miller Road where Meltis Albion host Westoning Recreation Club Reserves, while Lidlington United Sports get their season underway by taking to the road for a local derby game at Marston Shelton Rovers and the final game sees Saffron host Meppershall Jurassic in Russell Park.

In Division Three, Caldecote A kick off their Harvey Close home season with a visit from AFC Shillington whilst over at Mill Lane their is local derby action between hosts Potton Wanderers and visting Sandy A, having sat out the weekend league newcomers Hartwell start their season with a home Hillsground game against Exel United but the game of the night in this section could well come at King George VI Playing Fields in Clapham where hosts Kings AFC entertain their arch rivals Blue Chip.

In the final two games you would expect Meltis Corinthians Reserves to come away from Hurst Grove with the full three points from their encounter with hosts Lidlington United Sports Reserves and Wilshamstead Reserves should start favourites for the same haul of points when they travel for a Redborne School meeting with Twinwoods Thistle.

Action then moves onto Wednesday evening where in The McGirls Money Management Supported Premier Division, the two stand out games appear to be the local derby clashes at Moggerhanger where Blunham host Sandy and on The Green where Ickwell & Old Warden will receive a visit from Caldecote, and for good measure derby action also comes at Gold Street when Riseley Sports start their seasons campaign with a visit from Renhold United.

For AFC Kempston Town it's a home Hillsground game against Meltis Corinthians plus Sharnbrook and Wilshamstead will get their season underway with home games, at Lodge Road, Sharnbrook host Oakley Sports and at Jubilee Playing Fields, Wilshamstead receive a visit from Luton Borough, the night's final game in this division taking Westoning Recreation Club on their travels to Crawley Road for a meeting with Woburn.

In The Sportsform Supported Division One action, local derby games are again the call of the night, with pre-season title favourites Henlow begining their campaign by making the visit to Rectory Close for a meeting with Campton Reserves, whilst over at Bedford Road Recreation Ground newly promoted Sandy Reserves will start life in Division One with a visit from Dunton, the derby action also comes thick and fast over the other side of the county where at Stonefields, Turvey play hosts to Stevington and their is a all Kempston clash in Hillsground when Royal Oak Kempston take on Kempston.

Meanwhile at Harvey Close, Caldecote Reserves will get their seasons campaign underway with a visit from Bedford SA has will Reddings Wood and Marston Social who are set for a Cutler Hammer showdown, the night's other two games seeing AFC Kempston Town Reserves follow the weekend path of their first team with a visit to Greenfield Road for a meeting with Westoning Recreation Club Reserves and Elstow Abbey 06 play hosts to Flitwick Town.

Their is also Division Two action at Carlton, where Newham Athletic play hosts to Oakley Sports Reserves.
