Sweet Revenge For Meltis Corinthians As They Lift The Britannia Cup |
Wednesday Evening's Britannia Cup Final played before a crowd of 225 at Biggleswade United's Second Meadow Ground saw Meltis Corinthians gain sweet revenge for their two league defeats at the hands of Blunham during the season by claiming a 2-1 victory, The Sweetboys were always in control of the games earlier exchanges and after Dean Warren and Moby Hussain had spurned early opportunities to shoot them ahead Justin Patterson did just that after twenty-two minutes when latching onto a ball delivered to his feet by Carlton Dickson, Blunham were back in the game right on the stroke of half-time when Mark Davidson fired home from a pinpointed cross from Lee Marshall but the winner arrived ten minutes into the second period when Patterson was able to rifle home his second of the night after Warren pace had blitzed the Blunham defence wide open. Warren then missed two good chances to put the game beyond recall and save The Sweetboys a nervous last five minutes during which Matt Hullett should have taken the game into extra time but somehow shot over the crossbar from just six yards out. On the same evening Caldecote made it into the final of this seasons Biggleswade KO Cup when they netted a 2-1 win over Ickwell & Old Warden, Jack Gabbitas with a brace of goals setting them on their way until James Vallom replied late on for Ickwell. |
