1st May 2017. Action Round-Up
Britannia Cup Final

Action today saw Hillgrounds the home of Kempston Rovers stage this season's Britannia Cup between Caldecote and Marston Shelton Rovers. Opening half action saw first Caldecote via Jake Wallace and then the Rovers via a diverted corner delivered in by Harry Baker go close to opening the scoring in the opening 20 minutes before on the half-hour mark Jack Boyd had the ball in the net for Caldecote only to find referee Mark Brookes had spotted a earlier handball from Wallace. Alas this proved to be the end of the opening half goalmouth action and the crowd of 215 went to their half-time cuppa's thinking this can only get better after the break.

Oh how right they were, with 58 minutes played a sweeping three man move from inside the Caldecote penalty box saw Wes Burrows volley home to shoot the Rovers into a 1-0 lead, Caldecote who were looking for their eighth Britannia Cup success perhaps should have levelled matters 10 minutes later when Tom Wallace sent an effort just the wrong side of the Rovers upright. A miss they were to regret two minutes later when Dylan Porter struck home the goal of the night and place the Rovers into a 2-0 lead and seemingly on their way to their first ever Britannia Cup success.

However, Caldecote were in no mood to lie down and die, twice seeing efforts cleared off the line before in time added on a low cross from Porter was neatly tucked away by Lewis Steele to make it 3-0 and game over.

Division Two

The clash between the top two clubs saw second place hosts Riseley Sports take their unbeaten ways up to eight games and league leaders Wixams take their unbeaten ways up to 12 games in playing out a 1-1 draw. Sam Harrison shooting the Sportsman in front in the opening half before a flying header from Charlie Battams levelled matters in the second period. All this being a good result for the hosts who with the league leaders season at a close they now require four points from their closing two away games at Cranfield United Reserves and AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves to claim the Division Two league crown.

Elsewhere, Lea Sports PSG lost their seasons unbeaten away ways when defeated 4-1 at AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves who were returning to winning way following four straight league defeats. Kade Walker with a brace plus Luke Jackman and Sarh Kanda netting the goals to do the damage against a lone PSG reply from Ryan Darby.

Friday 28th April 2017. Cup success for Queens Park Crescents.
Under the Crawley Road floodlights of Cranfield United before a crowd of 200 plus Queens Park Crescents came from behind to beat Totternhoe Reserves 2-1 to duly retain the Centenary Cup and complete a 2016-17 season league and cup double. It was the Crescents who were the quickest out of the blocks and with just six minutes play a dazzling run from inside his own half by Ayaz Hussain saw him shoot his final effort just wide of the posts.

However within three minutes they were trailing, Crescents goalkeeper Piotr Karpuk making a right hash of a ball pumped high into his six yard box that allow the Tott's Jack Lauder to head home on the backpost. It was now end to end stuff with the best chance of an equalizer coming just five minutes from the break when following a sweeping move involving a quartet of players Shahinur Rahman fluff his lines with the open goal begging just six yards out.

The game changing moment was to arrive 24 minutes into the second period when earlier hero Launder was force to use his hands on the goal line to keep out a goal bound equalizer and following his red card dismissal by referee Jack Giles up steped the Crescents Daniel Rasol to tuck away the resulting penalty to give us a 1-1 scoreline.

Crescents with the one man advantage were now gaining the upper hand and duly took the lead via Shazed Satter 15 minutes from time. There was however still time for late drama when with less than a minute to play a handbags at dawn incident between several players from both sides saw referee Giles having to issue red cards to Tott's Harry Marlow and the Crescents Mohammed Abbasss.

What a cracking game that was commented a neutral in the crowd at the final whistle much better than that dross I had to watch on Sky last night. That same person then remarking upon the sportsmanship of both sides at the presentation where the call of three cheers for Totternhoe came up from inside the Crescents ranks as the gallant losers walked up for their silver medals and was replied to by the Totternhoe team applauding the Crescents visit to the medal table. " bet Fellaini and Aguero didn't share a cup of tea last night"
